  • Richard Somerville asked about the Parking Plan. Kevin said that one counselor wanted to put parking meters up all over town but that was voted down.  He said that the Bay View Parking area had started to make money and would help pay for coastline clean-up.  The stopping of parking on Bay View (a 25 mile hour road) has pushed much of the parking down onto the area of Kinney Shores and Route 9 (a 35 mile hour zone). Kevin suggested that renters should have permits for parking.  One plan being seriously considered is parking permits of 10.00 daily with $50.00 permits monthly and 100.00 permits for the season.  It was suggested that Kevin look into the parking now as people’s parking block mailboxes, don’t allow room for emergency vehicles and block driveways.  He suggested that we call the police at the non emergency number (207-284-4535) and that deputy Chief Demers is sympathetic to our situation and would help.
  • Taxes resurfaced and Kevin stated that he doubted that more than 5 people in the city government knew how they worked.  He further said that of the 18% mil rate, schools account for 12%  and the rest of city 6%.
  •  A question about the lack of Lifeguards in Saco came up next – would we have guards this year?  He said that the council had cut the entire budget, but that he got the money reinstated.  He said that we have three lifeguards with one more waiting to take the test.  He said that in the cities’ eyes Bay View is the priority (due to paid parking) and that to cover the beach six guards would be needed.  Many guards go to OOB where the pay is much better, or down to Kennebunk.  Kevin also suggested that the Fireboat that he had pushed for has the capacity to be helpful in an emergency as this ensure that another trained individual would be either on the boat or in the area of KS.  Kinney Shores residents in attendance doubted the feasibility of that.  Kevin said that he would be checking on the lifeguard situation for us.  He said you may contact him at the city web page.  www.sacomaine.org
  • Nancy Smith made a Motion to accept the secretary’s Report from the August Meeting, Maureen Sullivan seconded…vote was unanimous in favor.
  • Nancy Smith made a motion to accept the Treasury Report, Maureen Sullivan seconded…vote was unanimous.
  • Jim gave the Beach Report stating that the walks are in good shape.  The walk stewards are doing a good job and he asked that if there is a walk that you use and it needs sweeping or light maintenance, then please do it. It was noted that the No smoking signs are missing in most if not all the walk areas.  Jim said he would check on that.
  • John Thibeault and Jane Kerns asked that maybe if the lifeguards could have their certifications paid by Kinney Shores would attract them here? Jim thought no that the real issue for us not getting lifeguards was the low pay the city was offering. Maureen Sullivan asked about having two stations like in the past for Kinney Shores.  It was pointed out that OOB has helped us in emergencies in the past, but it was also pointed out that our residents have been the ones risking their lives to save our bring in victims in the past.
  • Directory, Web Page up date was offered by Brian Mula-Howard.  He told attendees that the web page address is kinneyshores.com or kinneyshoresassociation.com and the kinneyshores.nextdoor.com is linked off the web page and is our a good augment bulletin board to the web page.  We are going to use the web page to communicate in many ways. Including a Directory, Blog, History, Beach Rules, Officers Directory, Beach and Financial Reports and Meeting Minutes.  In general, your password to kinneyshores.com is the first part of your email address before the ‘@’ symbol, and the password is your Kinney Shores street address without spaces (457SeasideAve). • Jane Kerns asked for Watering volunteers for the planters.  Please contact her at 934-9321 to get your times to help. Many hands making light work.  We all thank you.
  • Jim talked about the Red Ribbon Commission and the progress that has been made in our bi-city area. Jim thanked us for the past financial support for the group and asked for that support to be continued in the future.  the program works with teens and substance abuse issues, texting while driving and more.
  • Jim next spoke about the Summer Social for Kinney Shores, it will take place on July 30th on the beach at 2pm. there will be games for children and adults, later on food like wood oven pizza. surprise entertainment and fun for all ages !  A committee to plan the event has been formed. If  you would like to help please email. Pam Cardin at pamcardin@yahoo.com.
  • Crime Watch was the last topic and it was stated that the Stearns House was broken into on December 29th. The fact that we are a crime watch neighborhood may dissuade would burglary.  we won’t ever know the crimes that aren’t committed, but Richard and Vanya Somerville relayed a story of trouble that they stopped by being watchful and calling 911.
  • Jane Campbell Moved that we adjourn and Jane Kerns seconded…vote was 32 in favor 1 opposed.

Respectfully Submitted,

Rick Campbell
