About the KSA

Formed in 1948 to promote cooperation and build relationships among residents — both seasonal and year-round.

Our Mission

The Kinney Shores Association (KSA) was formed in 1948 to promote cooperation and to build relationships among its residents — both seasonal and year-round. The KSA's objective is to maintain the character and quality of our community through collective action, neighborly connection, and stewardship of the beach and natural environment.

How the KSA Was Founded

In 1948, Arthur Winnie visited neighbors throughout Kinney Shores with a simple idea: that the area's property owners and residents would be better served by organizing together. Going house to house across the entire neighborhood, Arthur gathered support for forming a formal association. After a long discussion, the community agreed — and the Kinney Shores Association was born.

The Association hired attorney Mary Bradbury to establish its charter. The founding purposes were practical and community-minded, such as securing regular garbage and rubbish collection, increasing police patrols in the area, and placing lifeguards on the beach. From those early goals, the KSA has grown into the voice of the Kinney Shores community.

In its early years, the KSA held its meetings on neighbors' porches, with the first president being Mr. Coffey. The high point of each season was the annual picnic — a barbecue with races for the children and a pot luck supper that brought the whole community together. That spirit of neighborliness remains at the heart of everything the KSA does today.

What We Do

The KSA works year-round on behalf of Kinney Shores residents and property owners.

Boardwalks, Signage & Amenities

The KSA maintains the boardwalks, dog waste stations, and signage that keep Kinney Shores accessible and welcoming for residents and their guests.

Community Advocacy

The KSA represents residents' interests with the City of Saco and other agencies on matters affecting our beach, dunes, and neighborhood — from erosion and environmental protection to public safety.

Annual Meetings

The KSA holds two general meetings each year — one in June and one in August — where members elect the Board of Directors, review finances, and discuss community matters.

Community Social

Each July the KSA hosts a community social event — a chance for neighbors to gather, catch up, and enjoy the summer season together.

Communications

The KSA keeps members informed through meeting minutes, treasurer's reports, and this website — ensuring everyone has access to the information they need about our community.

Environmental Stewardship

The KSA works to protect Kinney Shores' natural environment, including its dunes, beach grass, and wildlife habitat, in partnership with state and local conservation organizations.

Board of Directors

The KSA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors elected by membership each year.
