Peaceful golf course on a New England morning
In Memoriam –

J. George Driscoll

United States Navy veteran, Raytheon engineer, devoted family man, and beloved resident of Kinney Shores

The Kinney Shores Association mourns the passing of J. George Driscoll, 84, of Saco, who passed away peacefully at home on the morning of September 9, 2019. George was a familiar and warmly regarded presence in our community, and his loss is deeply felt.

George was born on February 28, 1935, in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, a son of Charles and Mary (Campbell) Driscoll. He graduated from Lawrence Academy in Groton, Massachusetts, served his country in the United States Navy, and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from Bentley College, with additional studies at Northeastern University.

On October 5, 1958, George married Nancy (Sparrow) Driscoll — a partnership of sixty years built on love, shared adventure, and an ever-growing family. He spent more than thirty years with Raytheon, building a distinguished career in engineering while the family made their home in Concord, Massachusetts.

In retirement, George and Nancy made the move to Saco and Kinney Shores — a place that became the heart of their lives together. They spent many winters in Jensen Beach, Florida, but it was the Maine coast that called them home. George was a parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco and of St. Joseph's Church in Stuart, Florida, and a member of the Ocean Park Association and the Biddeford Saco Country Club, where he pursued his love of golf in his later years.

A colleague who traveled with George to Paris in 1975 remembered him this way: leaving a restaurant, George deliberately led them in the opposite direction from where they had parked. When asked why, he said simply, "If we go back the way we came, we won't see something new." That spirit — fearless, curious, always looking for what lay around the next corner — was George through and through.

George was predeceased by his son Robert Wayne Driscoll and by his siblings Charles John Driscoll and Mary Shanks. He is survived by his wife Nancy; his children Mary Ann Florek and her husband Francis, and Charles George Driscoll and Sandra Otis; his daughter-in-law Ann Driscoll; and six grandchildren: David and his wife Brittany, Patrick, A.J., Jack, Christopher, and Nicholas Florek.

The Kinney Shores Association extends its deepest sympathies to Nancy and the entire Driscoll family. George's warmth, his curiosity, and his love of family and community made him a cherished neighbor. He is greatly missed.
