James H. Thibeault
Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army (Retired) — a world traveler and beloved presence at Kinney Shores
The Kinney Shores Association mourns the passing of Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) James H. Thibeault, 92, of Saco, Maine, who passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, at the Gettysburg Center in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.
James was born on August 6, 1927, in Biddeford, Maine, a son of Joseph and Isabel (Sullivan) Thibeault. He graduated from St. Louis High School, class of 1946, attended the University of Maine for two years, and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Social Studies and Education from the University of Maryland.
James served his country with distinction for thirty years in the United States Army, retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His service took him around the world, and that love of travel never left him. In retirement he journeyed to Antarctica, Cuba, Europe, and countless other destinations — a life lived with curiosity and a spirit of adventure.
James followed the seasons with characteristic purpose: summers at Kinney Shores in Saco, spring and fall at his home in Blue Ridge Summit, Pennsylvania, and winters in Spring Hill, Florida. Kinney Shores was a place he returned to year after year, and his presence here was warmly felt by all who knew him.
A parishioner of Most Holy Trinity Church, James was known for his great stories and hearty laughter. Friends remembered him as always happy and full of life — a true friend who added joy to every gathering.
James was predeceased by his siblings Jacqueline Moles and Paul and Robert Thibeault. He is survived by his nieces Jane, Jill, and Elaine, and his nephews John, James, and Paul. A graveside service was held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Biddeford.
The Kinney Shores Association extends its deepest condolences to the Thibeault family. James's adventurous spirit, his warmth, and his decades of summers at Kinney Shores made him a cherished part of this community. He is greatly missed.
