Mark A. Carlson
A beloved member of the Kinney Shores community
The Kinney Shores Association mourns the passing of Mark A. Carlson, age 70, who passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, surrounded by his family, while overlooking Portland, Maine — a place he loved deeply.
Mark was born on January 22, 1956, in Troy, New York, to the late Albert and Theresa (Marra) Carlson. He was raised in Cohoes, New York, and later made his home in Rensselaer. He graduated from Cohoes High School, class of '73, and earned his associate's degree from Hudson Valley Community College.
Mark built a distinguished career with New York Telephone as a telephone technician, specializing in splicing, fault loading, and special circuit repair. He dedicated thirty-nine years to the telephone company, retiring from Verizon in 2015.
In June 1985, Mark married the love of his life, Lynn. Together they built a beautiful life and raised a family filled with love. Family was at the heart of everything Mark did — he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who would do anything for his children and grandchildren.
Mark enjoyed camping, boating, and spending time outdoors. Some of his happiest moments were spent at the family home in Saco, Maine, surrounded by his loved ones — and it was here, overlooking the coast he cherished, that he passed peacefully.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Lynn; his children Alex (Tarah) Carlson, Nathan Carlson, and Ryan (Darlene) Carlson; his grandchildren Bella Peasley, William Carlson, and Lydia Carlson; and his siblings Audrey, Bill (Aimee), and Richard, along with several nieces and nephews.
The Kinney Shores Association extends its deepest condolences to Lynn and the entire Carlson family. Mark's warmth, his love of the outdoors, and his devotion to family made him a cherished presence at Kinney Shores. He is greatly missed.
